Washington wrote his mother in October 1838 from Nashville concerning the Cherokee removal: &#8220;A detachment of Indians came through here yesterday whilst Mr. Simms [Wessyngton farm manager] was in town.  They left yesterday, and I expect will reach Connell&#8217;s tomorrow night.  There is another detachment at Mill Creek, which will be here tomorrow, and I imagine will in like manner remain here some days.
